Bachelor graduates at PBSA win "BDA Masters" study prizes
The NRW branch of the Society of German Architects (BDA) awarded its BDA Masters study prize this year for the second time. The BDA wants to provide an incentive with this prize for particularly gifted graduates on architecture and urban planning bachelor courses to follow on with a masters course. Outstanding bachelor graduates at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia in the disciplines of architecture and urban planning can compete for the prize upon nomination by their dean. The winners receive prize money of 2,000 Euro, although this is linked to taking up a masters course.
Two bachelor graduates from the Peter Behrens School of Architecture (PBSA), the Faculty of Architecture at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, were able to win prizes: Phillipp Bilke for his work entitled "Hombroich School with Bus Stop" – the work was supervised by professors Jochen Schuster and Oliver Kruse - and Alexandra Boruta for her project "[IM]PULSE A 40".

Students judge creative and progressive education work in NRW
"Focus on migration – education as a bridge to integration" – a successful project in theory and practice: 19 social institutions were visited by some 32 students involved in the Summer semester 2009. The aim was to establish whether the form and appeal of information brochures on education courses for people with a background of migration agrees with the active social work. The patron of the project was NRW's minister for integration Armin Laschet. Education is an important part of the process of integration. For this reason, the Educational Institute of the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband and the Department of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies at D UAS looked for concepts of further education which tackle the daily challenges of our society in an innovative and original way, and which contribute towards understanding and integration. To this end, the Educational Institute announced a competition for exemplary courses of adult education in the fields of intercultural learning and social integration in Spring 2009 under the motto "Focus on migration – education as a bridge to integration".

Research study on Fortuna - Fortuna Düsseldorf fans polled
What is the financial and social significance of the second division football club Fortuna for Düsseldorf as a sporting city? This question is to be answered by a research study performed by the Faculty of Business at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences under the supervision of Professor Dr. Sven Pagel and Professor Dr. Horst Peters. The study, initiated by sportAgentur Düsseldorf and commissioned jointly with Fortuna, will actively involve the fans. During the second division game against Rot-Weiss Oberhausen on Sunday, 13th December, some 30 students were deployed all around the ESPRIT arena to record the opinions of the stadium visitors in a questionnaire. Each set of questions took less than five minutes.
The research study aims to obtain quantitive and qualitative information on the structure of Fortuna's fan base and to establish the direct and indirect turnover for the hotel and catering trade and taxis. The study additionally intends to provide evidence on the advertising and image effects that Fortuna has for Düsseldorf as a sporting city. The results should be available by mid-2010.
